Peter Hayward, MSc
My approach to coaching is based on fifteen years competing in triathlon and endurance events as well as an education based in the sport sciences. My style of coaching is person-centred as I understand every person / athlete is different. We all come with a unique set of demands and limitations such as our work and personal commitments, athletic ability and individual goals. I support individuals by providing comprehensive training plans and psychological, nutritional and performance advice to assist you, the athlete, to perform to the best of your potential.
I develop bespoke and effective training plans based on each athlete's identified needs. The plans and support I provide are based on current scientific knowledge in the methods of sports coaching (i.e. physiology, sport performance psychology, training principles, biomechanics, kinematics, and nutrition) associated with athletic performance.
I think that by training smart with a tailored training strategy an athlete can be better equipped to commit to training, to maximise their athletic potential and to achieve their goals. An effective coach is not only adaptable, supportive, and engaging but also gives choice and control to the athlete throughout the training process.
As an Ironman Certified Coach I understand the roles and responsibilities I have toward the athlete. My core responsibility is to provide a smart training plan that makes sense to the athlete and takes into account their individualism. However, my other roles include athlete support, troubleshooting, feedback on training and progress (or lack of), on race scheduling and performance, and cultivating motivation to achieve goals.
Ultimately my aim is to ensure the athlete has a positive sporting experience and learns transferable skills which can then be utilised in other areas of life.
